Biography
Nicholas Bernard James Adam Byrne was born in Holles Street Hospital, Dublin on October 9th, 1978.
He has one older sister, Gillian, and a brother, Adam, who is a lot younger than Nicky.
His parents, Nicholas and Yvonne Byrne lived in Baldoyle, Dublin, where Nicky grew up.
He first went to Baldoyle Boys' School, then joined the St. Nessain's Secondary School,
where he met his future wife Georgina Ahern. He missed the first day of school because he had
an accident which also didn’t let him play soccer, his beloved passion until now.
He enrolled in his local team, Homefarm Football Club. At the young age of 16,
he was offered a two-year training contract by the English Premier League team, Leeds United.
He left school to live in Leeds but his height became a problem for what could have been his football career.
He was too small. Failing to continue his football career he returned home and did his Leaving Cert at Plunkett Collage
to be a Garda, his other dream by then.
While waiting for his Garda enrolment, his aunt encouraged him to try out an audition for Louis Walsh's new boyband. Nicky went there and got through all stages because of his talents, charm, and charismatic nature. He and another guy from Dublin, Bryan McFadden, became the new members of I.O.U - who later changed their name to Westside... and then finally to Westlife.
Co-managed by Boyzone front man, Ronan Keating, a huge solo artist, Westlife became a major hit, breaking record after record constantly and selling more than 30 million albums by now. And it seems as if they will be selling more and more. Nicky's football demise became his pop success, and until this day, Westlife has released a handful of VERY successful albums, and numerous No.1 singles.
